Suggested work design under iATS

The post-operation business process using iATS – integrated transactions ATM Settlement, is semi-batch, which consists of three main stages:

  1. source processing from external egaged systems like the switch (TLF) and the ATM server (EJ src file),
  2. user interaction, in order to adjust the system information if ATM cash position is unbalanced,
  3. source generation to other external evolved systems like the switch (on expects that switch processes the refunds), the cash manager software and the Financial Institution’s Accounting system.

In the case of there are no unbalanced ATM cash position records, all of this post-operation process could be entirely batch, thus, it is not necessary user intervention. This is the best situation for the post-operation business process.

The following diagram shows us the sequence of these three stages:

The first and third stages are batch computer processes, and these ones are performed by DATA PROCESSING role. They must review that every ATM has a balanced cash position, and if there were suspect transactions to be solved, after the first stage. Before launch the third stage, They must assess that every cash unit and concept code pair has the right GL configuration with Debit and Credit GL Account, and every ATM must be attached to a cash unit.

The iATS – integrated transactions ATM Settlement tool works in a collaborative way when one refers to the user interaction in order to adjust data. The following are the list of expected roles evolved in the post-operation business process:

  • DATA PROCESSING
  • ATMS UNIT
  • CASH UNIT
  • AUDITING
  • SUPERVISOR
  • CUSTOMER SERVICE UNIT
  • DATA PROCESSING

For each of previous listed roles, iATS system supply a set of menu options in order to achieve o perform the tasks under post-operation process.

The financial institution can suggest another roles if applicable and rearrange the options for the new roles, maybe corresponding to actual business unit, and our technical personnel proceed to change the actual software configuration.

In every financial institution, that launchs an ATM Network, exists a business unit with a core responsabilities named Electronic Banking, ATMs Unit etc, for controlling ATM Network operation as the main function in a global way.

On the other hand, the Customer Service Unit controlling ATM Network operation in a detailed way. It must verify the consistency or settlement for each financial operation at the ATM. It is responsible of the Refunds and Complaints.

In order to organizing work for all ATMs, one has to associate a Cash Unit. It is very common that the branch feeds the ATM under its responsability. But a lot of ATMs are located out of branches, thus a custodian company takes charge of these. If the financial institution has a lot of devices, it uses several custodian companies.
